Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge Update: Race 2-Day 12
Posted on 29. May, 2009 by admin in Latest News
Twelve days into the race from Tenerife to Bermuda, just over half way for most of the fleet, and winds are reportedly still very light, making progress slow. Some of the vessels have swapped positions since yesterday: although Jolie Brise (UK) is holding onto her lead overall on corrected time with Tecla (Netherlands) in second place, Spirit of Bermuda is now lying third with Kruzenshtern (Russia) in fourth place. In the Class D group, Xsaar (Belgium) is now in lying in first place overall on corrected time with Urania (Netherlands) second; Peter von Danzig (Germany) remains in third place and Rona II (UK) in fourth.
On the water, the leader of the fleet, Peter von Danzig, appears to have picked up some wind and is closing in on Bermuda with now only 737 nautical miles to go to the finish line. She has increased her lead over Spirit of Bermuda , opening the gap between them from 20 miles yesterday to 125 miles today. Bringing up the rear are Tecla and and Kruzenshtern with just five miles between them, and Etoile a further 9 miles behind them.
The fleet’s progress on the race can be seen via the fleet tracking.
The list of all the vessels positions on corrected time can be seen in the Vessel Positions Update.
